Top BC Climbers at The Boulders for SCBC Triple-Header This Weekend

Central Saanich, Canada – Many of the top climbers in the province, will be on hand at The Boulders Climbing Gym in Central Saanich this weekend (Jan. 10-11) for the Sport Climbing Association of British Columbia (SCBC) Triple-Header Competition.

One of a number of stops on the 2014-2015 SCBC schedule for the season, the competition will provide a unique opportunity to watch athletes participate in all three disciplines of the sport, including Bouldering, Speed and Difficulty.

Athletes from youth to adult (open) and masters, will be competing, ahead of the SCBC Provincials in each discipline later this season. 

The competition on Saturday begins at 10:00 am with Youth B and Open Bouldering, followed by the Youth B and Open Speed competition at 2:00 pm.   Youth C and D, Experienced and Masters Bouldering begins at 1:30 pm and will end by 4:00 pm.  Youth C and D, Experienced and Masters Speed will begin at 4:30 pm.  All age categories in the Difficulty category will run on Sunday in two sessions, 8:45 am to 11:00 am and then 12 Noon to 2:30 pm. The final awards ceremony will begin at 3:30 pm on Sunday.

Of special note, current US national difficulty champion Delaney Miller of Dallas, Texas will be competing in the Women’s Open Bouldering and Difficulty competitions on Saturday and Sunday

The SCBC Triple-Header is the first of five major competitions that The Boulders will be hosting in 2015.  Other events to mark on your calendar include:

February 20-22, 2015 – International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Climbing Camp:  This event will see the top 12 climbers in the world in both lead (difficulty) and speed come to the Boulders to teach athletes who wish to hone their skills, and learn more about competition climbing.  The event will be open to 100 athletes, ages 13 to adults.   This is the first time the IFSC has held an official training camp, and the Boulders is honoured to be the first host. April 24-26, 2015 – SCBC Provincial Sport Climbing Championships, Difficulty and Speed:  This competition is the culmination of the SCBC Sport Climbing season in difficulty (lead)  and speed and will feature the top climbers in the Province. This will be the third season in a row that the Provincial Championships are being hosted at The Boulders.

May 16-18, 2015 – Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) National Climbing Championships, Difficulty and Speed:  The Canadian Difficulty (lead) and Speed Nationals return to The Boulders following the 2014 Nationals in Montreal. Top climbers from across the country will be competing.

May 17, 2015 – IFSC Speed World Cup  – In conjunction with the 2015 Canadian Nationals, The Boulders will be hosting an IFSC World Cup Speed Climbing event.  This will be the first time that an IFSC Speed World Cup event has been held outside of Europe or Asia, and will feature the top speed climbers in the world including Libor Hroza from the Czech Republic, a former world record holder in the event who has been training at The Boulders over the past year.
