The Boulders to Host SCBC Difficulty and Speed Competitions Saturday
Kamloops, BC – The Boulders Climbing Gym in Central Saanich is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a Sport Climbing Association of British Columbia (SCBC) Difficulty and Speed competition on Saturday, February 22nd.
Saturday’s competition at The Boulders is the second of four sanctioned Difficulty and first of two sanctioned Speed competitions that will ultimately lead to the Provincials in both at The Boulders on April 5, 2014. The first Difficulty competition took place at the Edge Climbing Centre in North Vancouver on January 26th. Results from that event may be found on the SCBC web site at www.sportclimbingbc.ca.
The competition at the Boulders is the first major competition to be held at the facility since the completion of the successful 2013 IFSC World Youth Climbing Championships held at the gym last August. The Boulders also hosted the 2013 Youth Nationals and 2013 BC Provincials.
Competition at The Boulders begins at 10:15 am Saturday with the first of two climbs in the Difficulty discipline. Speed climbing gets underway at 12:45 pm and runs through all rounds, including finals, to 3:15 pm. The second climb in the Difficulty discipline will begin at 4:15 pm. Final awards will be presented at 6:45 pm.
The Boulders Climbing Gym is located at 1627 Stelly’s Cross Road in Central Saanich on Vancouver Island and is attached to Stelly’s Secondary School. Please note that all climbers and coaches wishing to participate in the competition must pre-register for the event via the Sport Climbing BC website at http://www.sportclimbingbc.ca. Climber Registration price (entry fee) is now $50 + GST for the Difficulty competition and $10 + GST for the Speed competition. Registration closes February 20, 2014. Coaches’ registration is free but coaches must be members of SCBC to register. Registration will NOT be available at the event.
